Question:
58 year old male in good heath:EKG was recently done and the interpretation showed the following:
IVCD (intraventricular conduction delay)
LAHB (left anterior hemiblock)
Low voltage precordial leads.
Would you be kind enough to tell me in lay terms:
what these mean,
if they pose a danger to life,
their causes
is treatment necessary
prognosis

Hi Alex,
Intraventricular conduction delay (IVCD) is often the end result of a number of different abnormal processes, such as Left anterior fascicular block (LAHB). Thus, many patients with IVCD have at least some type of underlying heart disease. Causes may include a previous heart attack (unlikely in your case), or cardiomyopathy such as caused by hypertension.
Treatment & prognosis depends on the cause. Check here to see what your risk for heart disease is. Talk to your doctor!
Hope this helps,
Dr T
