Question:
Dear Doctor T, In addition to cholesterol control do you have any other recomendations for slowing/halting or even reversing the progression of aortic valve leaflet calcification in a 67 year old physically fit person ?????. There is a lot of hype on the internet about COq10, Quercetin, vitamin K2, magnesium, etc. Don’t know what to believe. Thank you, Thomas
Hi Thomas,
Aortic valve leaflet calcification for the most part is not related to a high cholesterol, but rather (congenital) abnormalities in the valve itself. Therefore, improving your cholesterol will not affect the valve. In any case, treatment for valve disease depends its degree of malfunction. If none, calcification is irrelevant. If severe, it most likely will result in “stenosis“, a condition best treated with a valve operation
Hope this helps,
Dr T
