Question:
Dear Dr. T,I cannot thank you enough for all the information you have provided to me. I have made copies of everything. I just wanted to let you that I believe they saw these irregular rhythms with the holter monitor . I am wondering is it difficult to diagnosis NSVT if it was only a few times during the 24 hr monitor? Should I see if another cardiologist can read this before I go through with this cath or ask that he have the CT Angio. I believe we have a 64 slice machine at the hospital where I work. I am sure they are pushing for the cath so they can bill for it. I hate to be so blunt. I certainly want this problem worked up but I am shocked to see that he needs a cath .

Hi Julie,
A second opinion never hurts. Usually, the explanation for a recommended cath is that a stent can be done “as long as they are there anyway” – wrong advice! CTCA is very safe, costs less ($500 vs. $3000 for a cardiac catherization) and gives you the option of participating in the next decision.

Hope this helps,
